Keraterpeton galvani here was part of a group of amphibian-like early tetrapods called lepospondyls.

Living in what is now southern Ireland during the Late Carboniferous, about 318-314 million years ago, this 30-40cm long (~1'-1'4") fully aquatic animal was the earliest known member of the diplocaulid lineage (although its skull was much less elaborately modified than its famous boomerang-headed relative Diplocaulus).

It had a broad short-snouted head with eyes set far forward, and a pair of backwards-pointing bony "horns" at the back of its skull. Its forelimbs were smaller than its hindlimbs, and unlike most other diplocaulids it had five fingers on its hands instead of four.

Its vertically flattened paddle-like tail was also around twice as long as the rest of its body, and was probably its main source of propulsion in the water.

Keraterpeton seems to have been quite numerous in the coal swamps it inhabited, representing the most common species preserved in the Irish Jarrow Assemblage site – a location where fossil specimens were uniquely "cooked" and partially replaced with coal during the fossilization process.

WIP Wednesday

This Wednesday feels like a Friday! Also, it's quiet, also it's my first post in ages, thanks to everyone who tagged me in the past...month? God it's been forever. I hope everyone is enjoying all the COC content and the second to last day of this year before the return of the light! I moved into my new house last Tuesday and it's still a huge mess, but my brain decided that not writing was no longer an option yesterday, so I've got some Simon's Two Mums words for y'all. Simon POV,

"Headmaster, I hardly think…"  "Zip it," The Mage says to Ms Possibelf with a sharp gesture and her voice stops as though her lips have stuck together. "Simon."  I follow. It's as though I've been tied to him with a string. It's sticky and itchy and the roaring isn't enticing anymore, with every step I take it's more and more terrifying.  We're out on the lawn, and there she is: red and gold scales, sparkling eyes, smoke floating out of the corners of her mouth. She's majestic. I hold my hand out to her and The Mage slaps it down.  "She's not a pet. Attack stance."  I spread my feet wider, take my wand out and hold it across my body.  She's enormous and beautiful and prowling towards us. I don't want to hurt her.  "Try a bombardment spell," The Mage says. He doesn't even have his wand out. He's standing a little bit behind me.  My heart stutters in my throat, every bit of rage and hurt swelling up and rushing through me like fire.  I drop my wand hand.  "No."  "Simon," his voice is hard like stone. I hold my hand out toward the dragon. "She's not a pet. Use a bombardment spell. For Crowley's sake."  Instead I say, "I'm not going to hurt you." It's a whisper, but it comes out like a spell, heavy and echoing in my head. The dragon looks at me. "No one's going to hurt you."

Ok but I gotta ask: u know how Reader loooovees Wolfie especially Bunny?? What if Reader is exceptionally a big animal lover and hasn't seen Wolfie or Bunny for a while, and then suddenly they came back and Reader is all over them? I'm talking like she'll always insist on staying with her furbabies or she'd have them follow her one way or another cuz she's missed a lot of lost time! Sage is no exception to this rule even! (*G a s p*)

This ask is actually mostly for him tho; how will he handle it if Reader chooses someone else, or in this case these cute animals over him? (Lowkey thinking of finding a dark magic artifact in hopes of turning into an animal Reader will dote on)

I imagine if he does the woe is me from the gloom excuse they'd let him hug her but she's adamant on having wolfie and bunny join in the hug JAUDBDTJY How is he gonna around this one??

Sage is FURIOUS. Bc he probably knows who Wolfie and Bunny are. So when they come trotting over, snouts in the air and tails perked, he's left fuming with a dagger clutched in his grasp. He knows they are doing this to be nothing but spiteful and it eats at him.

Because these are the only beings that Reader would chose over him. He can't do anything about it either. If he kills them gets rid of them, you'd hate his guts. If he reveals the secret, that offers the possibility of you getting closer to the two heroes as a means to hear more about their animal sides. It's a lose-lose situation. How they managed to evade him long enough to sneak off is kind of beyond him, but it only makes him more vigilant in the future.

He for sure tries finding his own dark magic, but the closest thing he can find are the Twilight Mirror shards along the beach in Wild's Hyrule. They don't help at all and he's stuck until they get to Twilight's world and he can look further.

If he does try the gloom thing when their in Reader's radar, he is quickly faced with the happy go-lucky smile on Reader's face as she offers either a Wolfie cuddle (The wolf quickly makes his distaste known with a snarl that Sage throws right back) or a bunny snuggle (Sage bares his canines at the pink abomination who looks as impressed with the idea as Sage feels).

If Reader insists, unfortunately, they just have to grin and bare it. Maybe Sage gets a few nips when Reader turns away, maybe he doesn't. Maybe he tugs an ear or tail out of Reader's eyeshot, maybe he doesn't.

Reader will never know.
